Why I build in public
Public work creates accountability, invites earlier feedback, and leaves a useful trail.
Building in public is not about showing off. It’s about creating accountability and leaving a trail others can learn from.
When you work on something and share it as you go, you:
- Force yourself to articulate what you’re doing
- Get feedback earlier
- Build trust over time
The downsides
It’s not all upside. You expose half-formed ideas. You risk looking foolish. Some projects fail publicly.
But the alternative—working in silence and only sharing polished results—means missing out on the compounding effects of documented work.
My approach
I keep it simple:
- Log what I’m building on the builds page
- Write longer thoughts as notes
- Let the activity feed capture the rest
No elaborate system. Just enough structure to maintain the habit.
